MARK FARNER’S MUSICAL LEGACY LIVES ON LIVE

Capitol Records To Release
Grand Funk Railroad Live - The 1971 Tour

Hollywood, CA - Capitol Records is proud to announce the release of Grand Funk Railroad’s LIVE – THE 1971 TOUR. 1971 was a year that saw Grand Funk Railroad in incredible form--both on record and in concert. In fact, Grand Funk Railroad sold out Shea Stadium faster than The Beatles! This collection of previously unreleased live music is the start of Capitol’s year-long reissue campaign of the entire Grand Funk Railroad catalog.

Grand Funk Railroad set the world on fire with their high-octane and power-charged rock. Theirs was a sound filled with excitement, defiance and emotion. The times were changing, it was the early 70s and fans were flocking to concerts in droves to see the formidable talents of three guys from Michigan.

LIVE - THE 1971 TOUR features searing and memorable live tracks from various stadium concerts in the spring and summer of 1971, featuring such throbbing tunes as "Footstompin’ Music" and the album rock singalong "I’m Your Captain." A live favorite, "Inside Looking Out," comes in at over fourteen minutes and "T.N.U.C." receives the full in-concert treatment, registering at almost eighteen minutes in length! The diversity of the band is everywhere, especially on their own rendering of "Paranoid," as opposed to Black Sabbath’s version, which gets further to the heart of that twisted state of mind while rocking out tough as nails. And while GFR could rock as hard as anyone—their sold-out stadiums across the country testified to that—they also could pull out sweet rockers like "Hooked On Love" and "Get It Together." A cover of the Rolling Stones’ "Gimme Shelter" from New York’s Shea Stadium adds to this rich, rockin’ and fully engaging live album. Closing the set is the electric and eclectic "Into The Sun," another live staple for the group. Notice that five of these eleven tracks were recorded in their homeland of Detroit, a fitting tip of the hat to their original fans, indicative of what GFR has always been—loyal and fully-loaded.

Anyone who saw Grand Funk Railroad in their prime knows how good a live band they were and how strong their songs were in concert. And as they always said, their music was meant to be "played at maximum volume." Play it and enjoy.
