Contemporary Folk/Rock Legend Jesse Winchester
Plays 2-Night Stint At Bearsville
Historic Event Will Be Recorded for DVD, Live
Album
Bearsville,
NY--Legendary troubadour and songwriter Jesse Winchester will
star in two concerts—Friday,
Aug. 29, and Saturday, Aug. 30—at the Bearsville Theater
in Bearsville, New York, near Woodstock.
Supporting Winchester will be noted session greats such as
Rock & Roll Hall of Famer John Sebastian (of The Lovin’
Spoonful) and celebrated sidemen Jim Horn, Valerie Carter,
Artie Traum, Vince Melamed and Jerry Marotta.
Winchester’s appearance in Bearsville returns him to
the site and inspiration of his first label, Bearsville Records,
for which he recorded eight albums. Bearsville/Woodstock is
also the stomping grounds of The Band, whose Robbie Robertson
produced Winchester’s self-titled debut album in 1970;
The Band's Levon Helm added drums. Winchester’s most
recent album, Gentleman of Leisure, was released
to rave reviews in 1999 on Sugar Hill Records.
Apart from his seismic impact as a performer, Winchester has
also emerged as one of the most influential and beloved songwriters
of the rock era. Among his classic compositions are “Brand
New Tennessee Waltz,” “Yankee Lady,” “Little
Glass of Wine,” “Mississippi, You’re On
My Mind,” “I’m Gonna Miss You Girl,”
“Songbird,” “A Showman's Life,” “Say
What” and “Rhumba Man." His songs have been
recorded by artists in rock, folk, pop, country and bluegrass,
including the Everly Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello,
Wilson Pickett, Jimmy Buffett, Emmylou Harris, Joan Baez,
John Denver, Anne Murray, Waylon Jennings, Wynonna, Reba McEntire,
Ralph Stanley and the Mavericks.
Jon Pousette-Dart, founder of the Pousette-Dart Band, will
open the Friday show. Valerie Carter, the long-time backup
vocalist for James Taylor and a recording artist in her own
right, takes Saturday’s opening slot.
The shows will start at 8 p. m., Eastern Time. Reserved tickets
can be purchased through www.ticketweb.com
or by calling the toll-free number 866-468-7619. Tickets are
also available at the Theater’s box office and at 845-679-7303.
